WASHINGTON (SR) - World-renowned climatologist and former Vice President, Al Gore, will host a "green" inaugural ball the night before Barack Obama takes the oath of office.
"The Green Ball: Inauguration of a New Green Economy" will be held Jan. 19 at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in Washington.
The event's invitation urges people to join Mr. Gore to "bring together a diverse coalition of environmentally-forward organizations, entrepreneurs, scientists and advocates, celebrating a commitment to profit from celebrate the New Green Economy."
It also features a green-shaded image of Mr. Obama, along with a quote from the Democrat: "There is no better potential driver that pervades all aspects of our economy than a new energy economy. That's going to be my No. 1 priority when I get into office. Right after I do something about the economy, the war, and about a hundred other pressing problems."
Meanwhile in other climate related news, this week the typically warm cities of Houston and New Orleans were hit with bitter cold and snowstorms. Said one New Orleans resident, "Hey Al, what happened to global warming? We're freezing our asses off here, you ignorant bloated gas bag."
