WASHINGTON (BHN) -The Obama administration is stepping up its support for the "Occupy Wall Street" protesters and other groups both here and abroad demonstrating against capitalism.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said in a telephone call promoting an upcoming Obama campaign bus tour through the South, that the President "is fighting to make certain that the interests of 99 percent of Americans are well represented" — the first time the White House has used that term to differentiate the vast majority of Americans from the wealthy.
Wearing faded, torn jeans, Che Guevara tee shirt, sandals, and sporting a faux dreadlocks hairdo, Obama dedicated the Martin Luther King memorial at the National Mall on Sunday. He told the audience that if King were alive today, he would be with the protesters. "The only things Dr. King hated more than racism and prejudice were rich people, banks, and corporations," Obama told the cheering crowd.
